storm

Just as the region is recovering from the Joplin storm the weather service forecast an explosion of storms with potentially equal deadliness.  The super cells started popping up in the early afternoon west of Oklahoma City so we had sufficient time to get prepared.  We haven't taken shelter during a storm for the last thirty years, but things are changing.  Dorothy and I picked up Tara and her baby and met Kelly and her family at the First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs, AR.  The church is built into the side of a hill and the lower level affords ample protection against a tornado.

When we arrived we were surprised to see so many people already there.

Sunday School class rooms were filled.......

                                                             As were the hallways

This morning I went outside to check for damage. Some yard furniture had been tossed about and some branches were on the ground so we were very fortunate.

Given what we are seeing on the news, I think you and the others there made a wise choice. This is just frightening what those storms have been like. It seems like a good area to have storm shelters near or under the house and not just basements as that evidently isn't enough for these type of tornados.

Very glad to hear you went into town. Called Kelly today & asked about you guys after being concerned last night when we heard one of the storms was directly in your area. So thankful your home was/is there for your return!

I can feel your relief. It's always so hard to know HOW to feel for some other town's storm. This person lost a tree and that person lost a grandchild. I would have made some attribution to luck (since God clearly had nothing to do with it), but even luck is not that random or cruel.

I am so glad there is a safer place to go in your community.
