black-eyed peas
Did you eat black-eyed peas yesterday? If not, then, you've probably never seen Magnolias in bloom, tasted sweet tea in the summer time, spent an afternoon on a porch swing, or know what the earth smells like after a thunder storm. If you don't eat black-eyed peas on New Years day, then you're not from the south.

I've lived in the south for 7 years..but never heard about the black eyed peas! I must not have been paying attention.
Here in SC, you have to serve collard greens with your peas. I like the peas, but the smell of collards cooking is enough to make me barf! There goes our prosperity for the coming year.
I don't like collard greens either. My daughter doesn't like black-eyed peas but eats a spoonful just for the good luck effect.
I grew up eating black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. Now that I'm "mature," each New Year's Day I think about eating some (bleh!!!)... just like I think about exercising the day AFTER New Year's Day (bleh!!!)... Oh well, maybe next year! Pat
I could eat a whole bowl of black-eyed peas with corn bread slathered in butter and a tall glass of iced tea.
