Dorothy enlisted my help for another cake. I used my pasta machine (I never make pasta with it) to roll out fondant to make the black squares for the checkerboard effect, It also came in handy for the roads.
For those black squares and the pavement I started out with setting #1 and then finished with #2. It was tricky. I needed to have one of the grand kids there to turn the crank while I fed the icing with one hand and retrieved it with the other.
Love it...that's an absolutely amazing cake! Sorry I haven't been able to comment on your blog or even read it recently, but I've been in the middle of moving. It's been over three weeks, but it doesn't feel like I'm ever going to get finished unpacking. What is taking so long is that I'm sorting through and reorganizing virtually everything I own--something I should have done after my move from Pomona 4 1/2 years ago (but obviously never did).

What number setting on your pasta machine sdo you set it on to get it to roll out thin enough to work with but not so thin it tears?
