The Biltmore Estate, finished in 1892 is still the largest home ever built in America. It belonged to the Vanderbilt family who made their fortune in shipping and railroads. It is still owned by their grandchildren.
Biltmore House is breathtaking. We were there when the azaleas were blooming. I loved the gardens, and my favorite room was, of course, the library. I was itching to thumb through a few of the old books.

I took those pictures of the garden room before learning that photography inside the house was not allowed.
It's hard to believe Anderson Cooper on CNN is Gloria Vanderbilts son! Wonder how many summers he spent there?
